The Equity Voices in Media Fellowship (EVMF), is a collaboration between the Minority INFO Network and the Minority American Journal of Race and Racism, trains industry experts, researchers, and advocates to effectively use new media platforms to promote their work on critical issues impacting minority communities. Fellows gain essential skills to connect with online audiences, craft compelling narratives, and employ innovative digital strategies to expand their reach and influence. Through virtual media tour, media training, and public-facing activities like op-eds, interviews, and podcasts, participants learn to amplify their voices and engage diverse audiences. This fellowship bridges expertise and technology, empowering participants to foster meaningful conversations and drive systemic awareness in today’s rapidly evolving media landscape.

Fellowship Criteria

The Equity Voices in Media Fellowship is open to both emerging and experienced scholars, activists, and thought leaders from historically marginalized communities who have produced significant work on race and racism in America and its intersection with various industries. Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to social justice and equity, with a proven track record of impactful research, publications, or advocacy in their respective fields. The fellowship seeks individuals who are eager to leverage multimedia platforms to enhance the visibility and influence of their work. Candidates must propose a clear and feasible multimedia project that aims to disseminate their existing contributions or develop new scholarly work.

Student Criteria

To be considered for the Equity Voices in Media Fellowship, applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate program in a relevant field of study (such as journalism, media studies, sociology, political science, or related disciplines). Applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to issues related to race, racism, and social justice, with a proven interest in creating or disseminating multimedia content that addresses these themes. Candidates must have a track record of academic excellence and professional achievement, and be prepared to propose a multimedia project that aligns with the fellowship’s mission to promote DEI efforts and combat systemic racism.

Students should have at least one year of study remaining in their program and be able to commit to a minimum of 10 hours per week of fellowship work during the academic year. The fellowship is open to students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds who are eager to leverage multimedia platforms to enhance the visibility and impact of their scholarly work on race and racism.
